Before you have your Rwanda Safari, it would be more advisable to know something small about the country you are travelling to. Rwanda is located in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa, bordered by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, and Burundi. Rwanda is known for its being a land locked country with a size of 26,338 square kilometres, and it has a population of about 10 million. Rwanda consists of Batwa and pygmies who are hunter gatherers and have lived in Rwanda and other countries surrounding the Great Lakes Region since AD 1000.
As far as Rwanda’s history is concerned, these Batwa people used to stay in forested regions which were replaced by National parks of Mgahinga, Bwindi, and Echuya. While in the forest, they hunted for different animals and collected food, they also practiced pottery production simply because it is a valuable cultural and economic asset for Batwa, though largely out of necessity in the wake of environmental destruction challenging their traditional life ways. Today, most Batwa People make their living as tenant farmers. While they did all this, their wives would also participate in certain activities like fruits and vegetable harvesting. Nowadays, most Batwa people make their living as tenant farmers.
